Bowl Stack Linocut - multicolour
Original Linocut - Bowl Stack Multicolour
This stack of nine blue breakfast bowls was inspired by my breakfast bowls and those of a fellow artist, and during lockdown it took on a special meaning of the many large gatherings and extended family meals that we missed.
7 layer multiblock print, handprinted. Colours include a range of blues, yellow ochre, green and teal.
Printed on Bread & Butter printingmaking paper.
Size of paper: 21 x 15 cm (A5), torn edges.
Size of printed image: 14 cm x 9 cm.
This is the 4th edition of this print, forming a limited variable edition of 15 prints. Each print is numbered and signed. Every print in this edition is similar in design and colour but will have individual variations, such as the way the colours blend or the way the ink spreads on the paper. As the inks are hand mixed, it is not possible to recreate these colours exactly, therefore any further editions will have slightly different colourways and will form their own editions.
Linocuts prints are made by carving a design into traditional linoleum plates which are then inked up and printed in my two Victorian printing presses. All the areas which have been carved away will not print onto the paper, therefore leaving the paper white. Single-colour linocuts are very striking and bold. It is also possible to create multiblock prints with several overlapping plates, or reduction prints where the same plate is gradually carved away as the layers are printed.
